With all the talk about health care on a national level, I came across this little tidbit about Safeway (yes, the grocer) offering to help other employers set up incentive-based health plans modeled after their own successful program.
A grocer offering health care? It’s simple innovation. Safeway came up with a system that saves them money and sees a way to make more money from it. What will they charge as a consulting fee for helping other companies implement a similar system? A percentage of the savings (25%) over five years. That’s confidence.
Safeway’s mission statement reads, “Our goal is to be the first choice for those customers who have the opportunity to shop locally in a Safeway store.” But nevermind that it isn’t a part of their core services–I like that they’re thinking (here it comes) outside the box.
